Kevin was born and raised in Denver Co. and moved to Hawaii in 2012; his interests include Hawaiian cultural studies and Addiction Psychology. Kevin works on the Admissions Team as a Utilization Review Specialist and as a Patient Care Coordinator, assuring our patients are assessed and placed in the appropriate level of care, maximizing outcomes. After the initial assessment, Kevin assists in the development of a patient-centred treatment plan in coordination with the IDT and reviews treatment plan progress with patients weekly, allowing the patient the opportunity to participate in the treatment planning process. As a Utilization Review Specialist Kevin advocates for patients, providing medical necessity to secure patients the care they deserve, at the appropriate intensity, for the necessary length of time. He is passionate about his work in both Utilization Review and Patient Care Coordination and has always been passionate about helping others but it was once he got clean and sober in 2017 that the seed was planted and his interest in helping others find a vehicle to recovery blossomed into a career at Hawaii Island Recovery.
“I’ll never forget the day I called HIR and what I thought would be the worst day of my life turned out to be the best day of my life, it just took a while to realize it.” “I have a passion for treatment, having experienced it myself its an honor to be allowed the opportunity to help people find the road to recovery, which is often the road less travelled. Watching people find themselves is an indescribable feeling.”
Kevin is in school at the Pacific Academy of Healing Arts persuing a CSAC certification and is planning to further his education in the field of Addiction Studies at the University of Hawaii later this year.
