You are more than your diagnosis, more than your current struggle. You are a unique individual, a whole person. And you deserve a rehab program that respects that.
At Hawaii Island Recovery, you won’t find a “one-size-fits-all” approach to rehab. We won’t shuffle you through the same program as everyone else.
Instead, we get to know you and create an individualized, comprehensive treatment plan just for you. In our small, 8-bed facility on the tranquil, healing island of Hawaii, you’ll find the support you need to not only break free from your physical addiction but also to pursue health and wellness in your mind, body, and spirit.
Our program is founded on three key components designed to treat you as a whole person—not just your addiction.
Address the root causes of your addiction and learn healthy ways to cope in evidence-based individual and group therapy sessions.
Enjoy delicious and nutritious meals from our private chef, in addition to reiki, acupuncture, massage, and yoga, for a holistic approach to healing your mind, body, and spirit.
Rediscover the joys of life beyond addiction as you embark on life-changing excursions to Hawaii’s beaches, waterfalls, and more.
Because we create comprehensive and personalized treatment programs, we are equipped to treat a wide variety of addictions, including substance abuse and behavioral addictions, in addition to chronic pain and co-occurring mental health disorders.

For most addicts, their addiction was a behavioral pattern established over many years. Similarly, breaking these patterns can take repetition and time. Hawaii Island Recovery highly recommends that our clients enter into a Sober Living Program as a part of their transition from residential treatment to the “real” world. Sober living programs are a great benefit to individuals who have just concluded a stay in residential treatment because it allows them to assimilate back into society while still participating in “Out Patient” services through Hawaii Island Recovery. While generally speaking, sober living facilities are less restrictive than residential treatment, they ensure accountability and provide structure and support to those in early recovery. This enables clients to practice sobriety and hone their tools. Hawaii Island Recovery will assist discharging clients to transition into an appropriate sober living facility that best meets their needs.
When you’re facing addiction, it’s easy to believe you’re the only one who has made the mistakes you’ve made or fallen into the traps you’ve fallen into. But that’s not true. Take a moment to hear from others who once sat where you sit, then overcame their addiction here at Hawaii Island Recovery. Then pick up the phone and call us so you can begin your journey to healing, too!
“For all of you out there who think you can do it on your own, you don’t need to. There’s people that care and love unconditionally—and that is how I feel about this place.”
-Sean, after overcoming an oxycodone addiction at Hawaiian Island Recovery
HIR has created and environment with structure and support when neededOne of the most beneficial therapies happened off-site-out-of-the-office. We had the opportunity to do therapeutic work in nature. For me, being in nature allowed me to heal with out the stigma of an office setting.
A successful 30-day rehab and detox from pain pills and cocaineI have never been to rehab in my life and I was so afraid of detox and being miserable without pills and drugs. I wish I came to HIR sooner because they made it so easy for me. If you or a family member is considering treatment I will highly suggest Hawaii Island Recovery they have the best staff to accommodate your needs and are very compassionate and accommodating.
My experience here at HIR has been an emotional roller coaster rideThankfully with the amazing love and support of HIR staff, my sponsor, AA, 12 Step program, and my higher power. I have been brought out of a dark place in my life, and have been blessed with the opportunity to see the beauty in myself, others, and living a clean, sober life.
The staff understands what you are going throughThe staff gets you out and allow you to explore all of the wonderful things the Island has to offer, whether it is a trip to the beach, swimming with the dolphins or going on a hike, all were amazing and eye-opening experiences.
I have overcome my fear of socializationWe all have bad days, ones where we feel alone, or afraid, but here at Hawaii Island Recovery we are never alone and we can face our fears. I have overcome my fear of socialization, even the fear of loneliness. HIR has allowed me to not be so nervous, afraid. It also gave me skills, such as public speaking, giving me positive energy and adding more structure in my life to make me feel like I am not abusing this perfect life that was given to me all along.
It's magical, it's spiritual, it's life changingI can't express enough gratitude for the staff, the therapists, the amazing excursions the beautiful food and the sunsets that brought me back to life. Never in my life have I experienced such love, non-judgement, patience, understanding and the genuine desire to help and to heal.
I highly recommend this program to anyone who is ready to change their life for the betterMy month at Hawaii Island Recovery has been amazing. The therapists and staff are fantastic and have helped me overcome traumas I have been holding onto for 13+ years. They have taught me a large variety of skills to manage my anxiety and made my detox as comfortable as possible.
Without HIR I would not have been able to work trough the loss of my childrenI am now stronger and can be there for my other children. I will forever be grateful for this opportunity.
Hawaii Island Recovery is a life-changing programHIR helped me regain my mental, spiritual and physical strength. I will be forever grateful for everything they have done for me and for my new found life. I can’ t thank HIR enough for their endless guidance, support, compassion, and aloha that they have freely given to me. Thank you for saving my life. HIR. My family and I will never forget how amazing this experience was.
Within 72 Hours I was in Hawaii
I put in very little research into what rehabilitation center I went to. I did decide I wanted to get away from what I thought was a lifestyle. After opening up to my sister. Within 72 Hours I was in Hawaii. When my sister told me I could go to treatment in Hawaii I felt I was undeserving. Sure HIR had a great location. Their therapy helped me understand my addiction and gave me coping skills to get my life back. I was very fortunate to have a great group of People who became my friends in recovery. After the intense therapy, an excursion and laughter were well needed to process I am grateful for this opportunity.
I have never felt so secure
As I came in I was confused, not knowing what to expect. As the day's followed I settled in with 100% focus on why I was here. I have never felt so secure of my surrounding and the group of professional I shared my feeling, thoughts, secrets, life's ups, and downs, with the time spent here I encompassed and learned so many tools for me to practice for the rest of my life. I am so much freeier, open, honest, and ready and willing to live this new adventure in sobriety. I would highly recommend this treatment facility to anyone needing guidance and direction hope and a new way of life. I can’t thank this place enough for building such a strong foundation from a structure that was falling apart and missing so many elements to succeed as “normal.”
Recovery has provided a life that at one point did not seem possibleThere is something special about this Island and the people here. Kona, the HIR program and the AA fellowship had a life-changing effect on me. So much so, that I decided to move from Tennessee and make Hawaii my home. It was the best decision I have ever made for myself. Recovery has provided a life that at one point did not seem possible. I’m happier and healthier than I have ever been to. I feel blessed to be able to give back to the program that gave so much to me.
